Installation Instructions

Once you receive your shutters from DIYHurricaneSupply.com, please unpack them immediately and confirm that you have received all parts listed on your “Material List” or packing slip. If you are missing any parts please contact us at 1-877-349-3362. Please do not return any product before contacting us.

Once you have identified that you have all the correct parts, you will need the following tools to install the shutters:

•  Pencil or Pen
•  A Level
•  Wrench or Socket-Wrench
•  Measuring Tape
•  Drill and appropriate drill bit:

•  Cement and brick structures: use a 3/16” cement drill bit
•  Wood or siding structures: use a 3/16” metal drill bit

•  If using Vertical Channel mounting method: you will also need a ¼” metal drill bit to drill holes in the H Channel.

Installing Shutters Horizontally :

  1. Locate any obstructions that may impede how you install your panels. These may be overhangs or protruding window sills. You may need to have the bottom or top panel be at an angle or even end at the obstruction.
  2. Determine where to put your bottom panel. Mark the panel holes on external area of home. DIYHurricaneSupply.com recommends that at least 2 inches of the top and bottom panel overlap the house.
  3. Drill the bottom hole on ONE SIDE ONLY. Insert screw in this hole (you may need to use the socket-wrench for this).
  4. Before drilling further holes, ensure that the panel is level. Once panel is level, mark all other holes for the first panel and proceed with drilling and inserting the screws.
  5. Once first panel is attached via screws, attach second panel using the same method as described in step 3 without the level. The second panel should overlap the first panel at least 1 groove.
  6. Repeat step 4 until all panels are attached and the opening is covered. Then attach the wing-nuts to secure the panels tightly.

To remove: Remove the wing-nuts and panels. Store all parts together for easy re-installation. The screws will remain protruding from the wall.

To re-install: Place panels on the screws and secure them to the wall with the wing-nuts.

Installing Shutters Vertically:

  1. Locate any obstructions that may impede how you install your panels. These may be overhangs or protruding window sills. You may need to locate the H Channel or F track on the obstruction.
  2. Pre-drill the holes in the H Channel (top)
  3. Measure the height of the panels. Then determine the distance needed between the H Channel (top) and the F Track (bottom).
  4. Determine the location of the H Channel above the window/door. Place the H Channel above the top of the window. Drill in 1 screw as close to the middle of the H channel as possible. Attach the H Channel with the wing-nut.
  5. Before drilling further screws, ensure that H Channel is level.
  6. Once the H Channel is level, proceed drilling in screws starting with the screws in the middle. First drill the hole to the right of the first screw and then the hole to the left. Continue working out toward both ends until all screws are drilled and wing-nuts are placed.
  7. Now attach the F Track (bottom) by the same method as described in step 4. Be sure that your pre-cut holes line up with the track.
  8. Slide the F track bolts into the track.
  9. Insert the top of the panels into the H Channel. Then slide a bolt along the F track into each of the pre-drilled holes of the panel. Tighten a wing-nut onto the bolt.
  10. Repeat step 7 until all panels are inserted into the H Channel and attached to the F track. Be sure to overlap the panels by at least 1 groove.

To remove: simply remove the wing-nuts, then the panels and finally slide out the bolts from the F track. Store all parts together for easy re-installation.

To re-install repeat steps 6, 7 and 8.

In either the horizontal or the vertical mounting methods, the panels can be overlapped by more than 1 rise. For the best security, DIYHurricaneSupply.com necessitates the overlap of at least one rise per panel.

If you have either an overhang immediately above your window or door or a protruding window sill, you may need to make minor adjustments to the above installation instructions.
